Background
I farm 3 acres of terraced wheat on a mid-hill block near Chamba, Tehri Garhwal.
Problem
Erratic canal supply and seepage losses were cutting yields every Rabi season.
Method Used
Installed pressure-compensating drip laterals, mulched furrows, and scheduled irrigation using a simple soil moisture check.
Results
Yield rose from 18 to 36 quintals per acre; water use dropped by roughly 40%.
Challenges
Initial filter clogging and slope pressure balancing took two seasons to perfect.
Recommendations
Start with a pilot plot, invest in a good disc filter, and train family labour on line flushing.
